Arlene Van Den Top

Rock Valley, IA: Arlene D. Van Den Top, 88, of Rock Valley, died Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Hegg Memorial Health Center in Rock Valley after a courageous 5-year battle with cancer. Memorial service will be Friday, April 1, 2016 at 10:30 AM at Calvin Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley with Rev. Gideon Wamala officiating. A prayer service will be held at 9:30 AM Friday at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley with burial to follow at 10:00 AM at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Visitation, with family present, will be held Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Porter Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00 PM. Memorials may be given to Sioux Center Home Health and Hospice and condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Arlene Dorothy (Van Beek) Van Den Top, daughter of Dick and Dora Van Beek was born on July 20, 1927. She graduated from high school and then received her Teacher’s Certificate at Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa and taught at a local country school. Arlene was united in marriage with William Van Den Top on February 26, 1948 in Rock Valley, Iowa. Together the couple farmed north of Rock Valley until retiring in 1984 and moving into Rock Valley. William died on March 31, 1992. Arlene enjoyed traveling with friends, shopping with her daughters, being active with her church, Calvin Christian Reformed, and spending time with her family.

Arlene is survived by her four children, Bill (Helen) Van Den Top of Rock Valley, Dee (Lee) Bomgaars of Hull, Iowa, Jan (Kelly) Reitsma of Sioux Center, Iowa, and Don (Cindy) Van Den Top of Rock Valley; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one sister, Maxine Hansen of Rock Valley; brothers-in-law, Minard (Cora) Van Den Top, Pete Van Den Top, and Elmer Van Den Top; and sisters-in-law, Alice (Ed) Van Ginkel, Jeanette Van Den Top, Ellen Van Den Top, and Gert Van Den Top.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; an infant daughter; grandson, Jon Bomgaars; siblings, George (Anna Marie) Van Beek and Elsie (Ed) Kooima; brothers-in-law, Loren Hansen, Gerrit Van Den Top, Andy Van Den Top, Al (Rika) Van Den Top, and John Van Den Top; and sisters-in-law, Wilmina Van Den Top and Grace Van Den Top.
