Anna (Draayer) DeWeerd was born August 11, 1925 near Sioux Center, Iowa; the daughter of Gerrit and Jane (Langstraat) Draayer. She was raised on the family farm near Maurice, Iowa where she attended school through the ninth grade.
She worked at a grocery store in Maurice prior to her marriage on February 18, 1948 to John DeWeerd in Sioux Center, Iowa. They made their home on a farm south of Rock Valley for 57 years where they lived until John passed away on October 12, 2005. Shortly thereafter Anna moved to Heritage Estates in Rock Valley where she resided until her death. She truly enjoyed the fellowship of the residents, their monthly coffees and playing Rook each Monday night.
Following her marriage, she worked side by side with John on the family farm doing chores, gardening, canning, sewing, along with baking and cooking while raising their five children.
She was a member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center for 57 years during which she belonged to Mary’s Fellowship and Sunshine Circle. After moving to Rock Valley, she joined Calvin Christian Reformed Church where she was active in Faith Circle.
She enjoyed spending time with family and was always interested in their activities. At the age of 80 she learned how to use a computer and was able to email with family and friends. She enjoyed the “letters” and pictures that she received. She was always concerned about her family and each night would kneel, and later in life sit on her bedside and pray specifically for each one of her family from the oldest to the youngest. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be greatly missed.
