Rock Valley, Iowa: Anna Baker, 93, of Rock Valley, died Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Whispering Heights at Rock Valley. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at Netherlands Reformed Congregation of Rock Valley with Rev. E.C. Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery at Rock Valley. Visitation, with the family present, will be held Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley from 5:30 ' 7:00 p.m. Condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to the Netherlands Reformed Christian School.

Anna Marie (Vander Broek) Baker, daughter of William and Elizabeth (De Jong) Vander Broek, was born on April 30, 1920 at Chandler, Minnesota. Growing up, Anna was a good caretaker as she helped her siblings through illnesses. On January 8, 1941 Anna was united in marriage with Peter Baker at Rock Valley, Iowa. Together they farmed near Alvord. Upon retirement in 1971, the couple moved to Doon. Peter died February 20, 1991. Anna moved to Rock Valley in 1996. Anna enjoyed crocheting, needlework and reading. One of her greatest enjoyments was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Anna was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation.

Those left to honor Anna's memory are her daughter, Janice Attema and her husband John of Rock Valley; daughter-in-law, Jane Baker of Rock Rapids, Iowa; brother, Cornelius Vander Broek of Los Angeles, California; sister-in-law, Anna Vander Broek of Edgerton, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Gerrit (Joanne) Baker of Doon, Iowa; nine grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Peter; son, Willis Baker on April 16, 2011; sister, Helena Teunissen; seven brothers, John Vander Broek, Gradus Vander Broek, Gerrit Vander Broek, Jerry Vander Broek, Marinus Vander Broek, Jake Van Kampen and Ralph Van Kampen; and brother-in-law, Bert (Etta) Baker.
