HAWARDEN, IOWA- ANN H. WASSER, 93, of Hawarden, died Thursday, September 26, 2013 at the Hillcrest Health Care Services in Hawarden.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden with Rev. Todd Bunge officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Sunday, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Ann Hilda Wasser was born July 13, 1920 in Rock Valley, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Alvina (Tank) Gayer. She attended rural school and graduated from Rock Valley High School. She taught school for 3 years before she married Hayes Wasser on February 21, 1941 at the Peace Lutheran Church rural Sioux Center. They farmed near Hawarden and raised their 3 children before moving into Hawarden in 1963. Ann worked at Otis Radio for 28 years.
Her Trinity Lutheran Church meant a lot to her, where she served in various offices. She taught Sunday School for 18 years, a member of LWML for over 40 years where she held all of the offices and was Zone Treasurer. She was interested and very active in the Hawarden Hospital Auxiliary and worked in the thrift shop where she earned over 8000 hours of volunteering. She enjoyed playing cards and scrabble in her spare time.
Ann's husband Hayes died March 5, 1985.
She is survived by 2 children, Margaret and Hugh Knowlton of Santa Monica, California and Doug and Kris Wasser of Biggs, California; grandchildren, Aimee Knowlton, Adam and Lulu Knowlton, Anissa Knowlton, Hayden and Sarah Wasser, Sarah and Dave Brewer, Courtney and Mateo Marquez; great-grandchildren, Roland Knowlton, Lena Cooper, Andrew Knowlton, Hayes Wasser, Leo Marquez, and Hudson Brewer; brother, Bob; sisters, Dorothy and Marcia; sister-in-law, JaNohn Wasser; her adopted family 'the Van Wyks'; many loving and caring nieces and nephews; and a devoted friend, Cassie Lachmann.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Gary; great-granddaughter, Hazel Brewer; and sisters and brother, Martha Dierks Gerlach, Emma Moeller, Fritz Gayer, Minnie Bauder, Louise Heuer, and Esther Bauder.
