Rock Valley, IA: Ann Ver Burg, 99, of Rock Valley, Iowa died on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Whispering Heights in Rock Valley.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at the Calvin Christian Reformed Church in Rock Valley with Rev. Gideon Wamala officiating. Burial will follow in the Valley View Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the funeral. The Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley is assisting the family. The family prefers memorials be directed to the Rock Valley or Doon Christian Schools or the Foster Grandparents Program.
Ann Ver Burg (Kooima) was one of 8 children born to Sebert and Mary (Van Beek) Kooima on a farm southwest of Rock Valley, Iowa. She was born June 23, 1918. Ann told of how she shared clothes with her sisters and slept 3 to a bed, 5 girls in a room.
After 2 years of high school, she started as an aid in a classroom with one teacher, 2 grades and 62 students. After doing this for 4 years she finished high school, went to summer school and began teaching. She taught in Country School, Rock Valley Christian, Sioux Center and Doon Christian. She finished her career as a Foster Grandparent in the Rock Valley Community School, retiring at the age of 92. Hundreds of people can say “she was my teacher”. She also played piano for the Hope Haven Gospel Choir for 25 years.
Ann married Edward Ver Burg in 1946. They had one son, Ed. She lived on the farm north of Rock Valley for 70 years.
Ann was a member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church and a faithful member of Faith Circle. She enjoyed playing organ and piano and she loved to read.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Ed (Carol) Ver Burg; and 4 grandchildren,

Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; 3 brothers, Simon (Maggie) Kooima, Peter (Anne) Kooima, and Clarence (Winifred) Kooima; and 4 sisters, Ruth (Bill) Schleis, Everdean Kooima, Tena (Dick) Eppinga, and Nellie (Ted) Bartman.
