Anita Van Maanen

Rock Valley, IA: Anita Pearl Van Maanen, 88, of Rock Valley, Iowa, died Saturday, July 24, 2021 at her home. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, July 27, at 11:00 AM at Calvin Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Gideon Wamala officiating. The service will be livestreamed at www.calvincrcrv.org and shown on cable channel 75. A prayer service will begin at 10:00 AM Tuesday at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley with burial to follow at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will be held Monday, July 26, at Porter Funeral Home from 5:30-7:30 PM. Memorials may be given to Western Christian High School in Hull, Iowa.

Anita (Ykema) Van Maanen was born August 30, 1932 to Henry and Jennie (Hoekstra) Ykema of rural Hawarden. She graduated from Hawarden High School. Anita married Henry E. Van Maanen on November 17, 1954, and they made their home in Rock Valley. Anita’s love for the Lord was expressed in her ability to make what she loved grow and flourish - whether her six children and their families, or the plants she tended. She also kindly served customers for many years at Van Maanen’s Radio Shack.

Her family was blessed with a loving, selfless Christian mom, grandma, and great-grandma, and we praise God for her long life as a true and faithful servant of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Anita is survived by her 6 children, Korrie (Sarita) Van Maanen of Rock Valley, Alan (Deb) Van Maanen of Sheldon, Iowa, Peggy Van Maanen of Hull, Iowa, Galen (Marlene) Van Maanen of Rock Valley, Curt Van Maanen of Rock Valley, and Amy (Dale) Vander Berg of Sioux Center, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Norman Ykema of Minnesota; and sister-in-law, Henrietta Vanden Bosch of Rock Valley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Van Maanen; brother, Bernard Ykema; sisters and brothers-in-law, John and Joyce Feenstra, Paul and Madelyn Wallinga, and Hubert and Wilhelmina Landegent; brothers and sisters-in-law, August and Hermina Ykema, Tony and Wanda Ykema, Lawrence and Lois Ykema, Melvin and Wilmina Ykema, Gerrit and Berdena Van Maanen, John and Ruth Van Maanen, and Jim and Elda Van Maanen; sister-in-law, Evelyn Ykema; and brother-in-law, Art Vanden Bosch.
