Andrew "Andy" Schipper

Ireton, Iowa ~ Andrew Schipper, 91, of Ireton, died Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Hawarden Regional Healthcare. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 5, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton with Pastor Michael Boothby officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton. Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Andrew Schipper, son of Cornelius and Jennie (DeGroot) Schipper, was born June 24, 1925 at Sioux Center, Iowa. Andy graduated from Ireton High School. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy during World War II. He was stationed at the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. On July 1, 1950 Andy was united in marriage with JoAnn Nygard in Akron, Iowa. The couple made their home in Ireton where Andy served the United States Postal Service for 62 years. JoAnn died March 1, 2013.

Andy enjoyed being an outdoorsman. He liked hunting, fishing, trapping and gardening. Andy was a member of the Bertram Post #276, American Legion of Ireton and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Ireton.

Andy is survived by his four children, Andrea (Butch) Southard of Marshalltown, Iowa, Kirk (Cindy) Schipper of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Paula (Rich) Hohn also of Sioux Falls, and Lori (Bruce) VanBuskirk of Beresford, South Dakota; his seven grandchildren, Emily (Zach) Hogan, Taylor Schipper, Sam Schipper, Matt (Kari) Hohn, Krista (Jerrod) Mann, Brady VanBuskirk, and Jenna VanBuskirk; one great-grandson, Archer Mann; two sisters, Pearl Schipper of Hawarden and Jeneva Coulander of Ireton; and brother, Wally (Delores) Schipper of Ireton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cornelius and Jennie; his wife of 62 years, JoAnn; and three brothers, Del, Cornelius “Mike”, and Rueben Schipper.
