Hull, IA: Agnes (Attema) Rasmussen, 90, died Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, Iowa. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 19, 2013 in Obert, Nebraska. Condolences may be left online for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.
Mrs. Rasmussen was born on April 16, 1923 on a farm southeast of Rock Valley to Pier and Bertha (Van Duyn) Attema. She was the youngest of seven children. Agnes graduated from country school and then went on to Western Christian High School for two years. She later taught herself to type and worked in a legal office for a time.
She was married to Levi Rasmussen of Obert, Nebraska, and except for a short time in Sioux City, they lived their entire married life in Obert. They had no children, so nephews and nieces had an extra special place in their hearts.
Agnes enjoyed playing the piano, crocheting, embroidering, cooking, baking, and playing Skip-Bo. Her love for Jesus and His church was the most important thing in her life. She often struggled with her health and longed for her heavenly home. John 14 was a favorite Bible passage.
After her husband's death, Agnes moved back to Rock Valley to live with her sister Ann and brother Jake. She and her sister later moved to the New Homestead in Sioux Center. Agnes has lived at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull since 2004. Art and Phyllis Attema of Sioux Center have assisted her for many years.
Survivors include sister-in-law, Clarissa Attema of Acworth, GA; nephews, Pete, Leonard, Bob, Bernie, Art, and Russell Attema, and one niece, Connie Blehm, with their families; long-time close friends, Sharon and Gene Olsen; and numerous Rasmussen relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her siblings, Tony, Gerrit, Lane, Jake, Art, and Ann Attema; and niece, Barbara Attema.
